Gas vs induction running costs in India: electricity tariffs vs LPG prices decide the winner
At current Indian rates (LPG ~₹900 per 14.2 kg cylinder, electricity ~₹6-8/unit in most states), induction is typically cheaper to run per meal — a 2000W induction cooktop converts ~85-90% of energy to heat vs ~40-55% for gas burners, so less energy is wasted. However, if your local electricity tariff is high (above ₹9-10/unit) or you get subsidized LPG, gas can come out equal or slightly cheaper. The real kicker in India is that induction cooktops themselves cost as little as ₹1,200-1,500, so the payback period is very short. The iBELL 2000W at ₹1,420 is a honest entry point to test induction cooking before committing fully — it's BIS certified, which matters for safety.
Good for: Anyone currently on market-rate LPG and paying standard household electricity tariffs who wants to cut monthly cooking costs.
Skip if: Households with a subsidized LPG connection and cheap cylinder prices, or those who cook on high flame frequently (wok cooking, tadka) where gas has a real practical edge over induction.
This never changes the price you pay, and it's never the reason this option was suggested.
